Dear members,

We are happy to announce we are getting closer to the re-opening of our pool!

The city has advised that the final stages of work is being completed; the painting of the basin should be finished soon and crews are working seven days a weeks to get the pool open before the holidays. If the work continues smoothly, the pool will re-open the week of December 19th.

We will return to our pool once it opens and we will send you the revised schedule as soon as we are able.

We would like to thank you for your patience and hope to see you poolside soon!

Go Fins!

Dear Members,

We apologize for the delay in news of the pool renovations. As of now, we are still waiting for confirmation from the city on a reopening date. However, it looks like we will definitely be back home by the New Year (if not before). In preparation for this, we have revisited our temporary training schedule and made a few minor modifications to a few of the groups (Senior, 4A, 4B, 3A, 3B) beginning December 6. Please see the attached schedule and direct any questions you may have to your coaches.

In the meantime, please note the following:

1. We are hosting the December regional meet at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Center on December 17. There will be no practices for all groups on that day as we will need as many volunteers as possible!

2. The club will be closed for the holidays from December 24 – January 2. Practices will resume on Tuesday January 3rd.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We can’t wait to be back home with you all soon!

Sincerely,

The Bluefins Board of Directors and Coaching Staff

  09-12-20143rd annual Clothing/Toy Collection for Women's Shelter‏‎
Good day to all BBF swimmer families:

In the spirit of the holiday season, we are planning a 3rd annual collection of new clothing and new toys (for women and children of all ages) to benefit the West Island Women's Shelter, an organization that protect women and children against conjugal violence. Our club could help in putting a smile on someones face on Christmas morning. Please bring your article of clothing or toy to the Holiday gathering on December 19th at the Recreation Center. A table will be set up for the collection. Please email Christina Abboud (christinaabboud@bell.net) if you have any questions. Please don’t wrap the gifts as they will be classified at the Shelter based on gender and age. The delivery will be made on Christmas eve. The past 2 years was a huge success due to the overwhelming generosity of our Bluefin families.

Let's continue to show our spirit and help to make this holiday season a little easier. The Shelter has asked that we keep in mind that teens (12-19) are also residents of the shelter.

Thank you very much for your collaboration and happy holidays,

Christina Abboud

  28-10-2014Bluefins Spirit !
Hey Everyone,

The first couple weeks of practices were amazing. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and showing a great deal of sportsmanship and enthusiasm. Apart from everybody's great swims and best times at the first competition of the season, the Bluefins were hands down the loudest and strong hearted along side of the pool, not only cheering for their group mates, but also supporting the club as a whole. We are very pleased in every aspect the season has brought so far and are very excited for the upcoming meet, encouraging the same spirit and support the Bluefins community brings to each and every competition. Keep up the good work Fins!

See you on deck!
The Coaches

A former Bluefins swimmer, he also swam for John Abbott College Swim Team between 2008-2010. The Abbott Swim Team won provincial championships for both of those seasons.

  03-14-2014Group Practice - Saturday March 22nd from 7:30 am to 9:00 am

Please note that we will be having another group practice Saturday morning, March 22nd from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. All Elite and 4A swimmers will still have a regular practice from 6:00 am to 7:30 am.

We will focus on different technical corrections and always include some stations for starts and turns and then of course have some fun mixed relays at the end of practice and some CHEERS!!!!!!!!!!

It is a great opportunity for the swimmers to improve their skills, have a ton of fun and see what being a Bluefins swimmer is all about! We hope to see everyone there.

  11-15-2013BBF Christmas Party - December 21st from 2-4pm

We would like to invite all swimmers to participate in the second annual Bluefins Christmas party at The Salon de Quilles Pincourt located at 111 blvd de l'Ile in Pincourt on December 21st , 2013 from 2:00-4:00pm.

The cost for each child would be $15 (including 2 rounds of bowling and the shoe rental). They will be served a small bag of chips and a drink.

As well, in the spirit of the holiday season, we are collecting new clothing and new toys (for women and children of all ages) to benefit the West Island Women's Shelter, an organization that protect women and children against conjugal violence. Our club could help in putting a smile on someones face on Christmas morning. Please bring your article of clothing or toy to the Salon de Quilles either at the drop off or pick up and see Christina or Tracey. The delivery will be made on Christmas eve. Last year was a huge success and the shelter was overwhelmed with joy. Let's show our Bluefin spirit and help to make this holiday season a little easier.

If you have intentions of sending your swimmer(s), we ask that you respond to Christina (as per the email sent out by Matt earlier in the week) by December 1st. After this date, we cannot guarantee that there will be space. We need to gauge the responses so that we may decide on how to accommodate all the bowlers.

Please respond as you know, it would be appreciated.

Due to the expected large number of emails to come in, it would facilitate things if you would respond in the following manner: In the subject line "we have (#) of bowlers from the (family name)". Due to limited space, this event is for Bluefin swimmers only.

As well, we are asking for 2 parent volunteers to help the coaches of the Junior Fins, 1 a and b , and the 2 a and b groups. Please indicate if you are available.

Thanks for your co-operation,

Christina Abboud

05-29-2013Bluefins Host Another Successful Meet - ANLSL Finals!
This past Sunday May 26th, the Bluefins hosted 300 young swimmers, over 100 officials and volunteers for the Lac St. Louis Region Finals.

We provided these young athletes with a safe, and friendly environment to compete. They were marshalled out on deck by a crew of experts, so that they could focus on the race ahead. Once in the water, you can imagine their adrenaline kick-up when they heard Coach Etienne announce their name over the sound-system. We then celebrated their achievements with a great awards ceremony in the gym, emcee'd by Coach Tim. To cap it all off, they get to relive it all at home with their medals, ribbons, and a program that is a beautiful keepsake. We have a few left-over copies, if you wish to have one, please contact Cynthia.

The safety marshalls did a fantastic job controlling the crowd and helping to ensure parents got to see their children swim. Our officials, volunteers, coaches were once again very well taken care of with a good breakfast, snacks on deck, and a great home-made meal after the meet. We are a favourite stop on the officials circuit.

The Meet organizing committee wish to thank all those who volunteered their time to make it all possible. Bravo!

      05-27-2013ANLSL Finals Results
    Results (Swimming.ca) Results (PDF)
On Sunday, May 26th, the Bluefins' troop of regional finalists made their coaches, parents, and themselves proud as they swam their hearts out at a meet hosted at home. The early morning meet started with loud cheering that didn't stop until the final relay was done swimming. Almost every swimmer moved up at least one spot in their race and many swimmers went home with sore necks from all of the medals they won. The awards ceremony was well attended by the Fins and it was rare to hear a race's top 8 swimmers called without at least one Bluefin. The future is looking bright with all of the swims and spirit that the coaches witnessed this week end. Go Big Fins!

    The Bluefins' Coaching staff

05-23-2013Bluefins Younger Swimmers Shine at Top Cups 2013!
TOP Cup 2013 was a huge success for the Bluefins. Judging by the amazing cheering and relentless enthusiasm you would never know that we sent a small team of only 28 swimmers! That small BBF team however really swam "BIG" with some incredible performances from all swimmers and placing us 6th overall out of 30 clubs! We were only 1 point behind the 5th place team and 30 points behind the 4th place team. An amazing performance all around for BBF!

The morning sessions of the TOP Cup provided an opportunity for all the 10 year old swimmers as well as the 9 year old boys to really showcase their awesome skills in the pool. So many of our swimmers were able to score points in a lot of events and help the team become a force at this competition. Amidst some stiff competition, Hannah Booler was able to place 4th in the 50 Breast and Max Bolcato finished 4th in the 50 Fly - both just off the podium!

At the afternoon sessions of the TOP cup the 8 and under swimmers, as well as 9 year old girls, got their chance to shine in the pool. With loud cheering, great spirit, and many fantastic swims, the kids and coaches all left with big smiles on their faces. All of our relays swam excellent swims, with the boys' claiming the bronze medal in both the medley and freestyle relays. Teun Van der Schrier left the pool with a bronze medal for his 50m. breaststroke race and most of the other young bluefins scored points for the team. Good job all around!

The team dinner Saturday night at "The Big Fat Greek Buffet" provided a great atmosphere and some great food for all the attended. They were able to accommodate 60 Bluefins members and it really felt like like a giant Bluefins family dinner! No matter how old the coaches get, we know we will always have seats reserved for us at the kids table! A great trip all around for BBF with lots of fun and lots of fast swims. Looking forward to next year's competition.

BBF 10 & Under Coaching Staff

05-15-2013Bluefins will no longer be attending the DDO Long Course Invitational
    To all BBF 2A, 3A, 3B, 4A, 4B and ELITE swimmers:

Please note that we will no longer be attending the DDO Long Course Invitational this coming weekend.

The P1-P2 long course meet that DDO hosts every year has been gaining popularity due to the fact that the sessions were never too long which is hard to achieve with a long course competition and they always provide a quality meet that runs on time. This coupled with the fact that PPO is not hosting a long course meet this season has overbooked their competition and as a result we will not be participating. There are so many entries into the competition that in an effort to maintain sessions of a reasonable length, the DDO swim club has even pulled out of their own meet.

We realize that we will have many disappointed swimmers and we also have some swimmers in search of standards and we will be looking to replace this competition with either another competition or an in-house time trial. Please keep an eye out for an email with more details on this. We apologize for the inconvenience but we do feel that another competition with sessions a bit more reasonable in length will be a better option for our swimmers.

We do encourage those who still wish to volunteer at the competition to do so. They are a club from the west island and have always supported our competitions in the past and given that they have pulled out of their own competition, I am sure they will lose some of their own volunteers and would welcome the help from those who are interested.

Again, we apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused and for getting the news out at such a late date but we just found out ourselves. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your coaches.

Thank you for your collaboration and we hope everyone enjoys the long weekend,

    Matt Showers
    BBF

The Aquafete du Carnaval swim meet in Quebec City took place between February 9th & 10th, 2013 and was a complete success! Saturday morning was the first day of the competition and provided some amazing results. Saturday afternoon the team went for lunch at Pizza Royale where the hungry swimmers after a morning of fantastic swims devoured the pizza buffet. The Bluefins were loud and proud all weekend long with some great cheering and even better swimming. We look forward to retuning next year!
